Terms of service

1. Our agreement

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a contract between you and Islamic School Review LLC ("IslamicSchoolReview," "we," "us," "our"). By creating an account, posting a review, or using any part of our website, mobile applications, newsletters, or other services (collectively, the "Services"), you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.

If you are using the Services on behalf of a school or organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity, and "you" refers to both you and that entity.

2. Eligibility

• You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
• Students 13–17 may post content with a parent or guardian's consent.
• Children under 13 may not create accounts or post content.
• If you have previously been banned, you may not register a new account without our written permission.
• Use of the Services must comply with the laws of your country and any region where you access them.

3. Accounts

• You're responsible for everything that happens under your account. Pick a strong password and don't share it.
• Provide accurate registration information and keep it up to date.
• One person, one account. Don't create an account for someone else without their permission.
• Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized use at security@islamicschoolreview.com.

4. Reviews and user content

4.1 Your content, your responsibility

When you post a review, comment, photo, or other content ("User Content"), you warrant that:

• It is truthful and reflects your genuine first-hand experience (or the experience of a child in your immediate family).
• You have the right to post it and it does not infringe on anyone else's rights.
• It does not contain personal information about third parties (other students, families, staff) without their consent.
• It is not defamatory, harassing, or unlawful.

4.2 License you grant us

You keep ownership of your User Content. By posting it, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, sublicensable license to host, display, reproduce, adapt, distribute, and publish it in connection with operating and promoting the Services. This license ends when you delete your content, except for (a) content that's been used in compilations and (b) reasonable backup copies.

4.3 Moderation

We review content against our Community Guidelines. We may remove, edit, or refuse to publish content that violates these Terms or those Guidelines. We may also suspend or terminate accounts for repeated or serious violations.

Decisions are made by human moderators with optional assistance from automated tooling. You may appeal any moderation decision by replying to the notification email within 14 days.

4.4 Verification

We may ask reviewers to verify their relationship to a school (e.g. by providing a tuition receipt or school email). We store verification documents securely and delete them once verification is complete.

5. School listings and claims

5.1 Listings

We create listings for Islamic schools based on public information (government records, accrediting bodies, public websites). A listing does not imply any affiliation, endorsement, or partnership between us and the school. Schools may not demand removal of a factually accurate listing.

5.2 Claim process

A school representative may "claim" a listing by:

1. Creating an account with an email address at the school's domain.
2. Providing verification documents on request (e.g., proof of affiliation, board resolution).
3. Accepting these Terms and the Advertiser Terms on behalf of the school.

Claimed listings may edit school information (hours, programs, photos, descriptions). Edits are reviewed before publishing.

5.3 Rules for claimed listings and advertisers

• No fake reviews. Neither you nor anyone acting on your behalf may post reviews of your own school, solicit reviews in exchange for anything of value, or coordinate to manipulate ratings.
• No retaliation. You may not contact, pressure, threaten, or take adverse action against any reviewer — including current or former families, students, or staff — on account of their review.
• Honest information. Data submitted to your listing (tuition, enrollment, accreditation, test scores) must be accurate.
• Respond professionally. If you reply to reviews, be respectful and do not disclose private student information.

Violations may result in removal of the claim, termination of any paid membership without refund, and public notation on the listing.

6. Memberships and billing

• Free tier. Basic directory listings and standard user accounts are free.
• Paid tiers. Schools may subscribe to Basic ($299/year), Premium ($899/year), or Platinum ($2,499/year) memberships, as described on our pricing page. Features and prices may change with notice.
• Billing cycle. Paid plans are billed annually in advance.
• Auto-renewal. Paid plans auto-renew unless you cancel at least 7 days before the renewal date through your account settings or by emailing billing@islamicschoolreview.com.
• Refunds. We offer a 14-day refund for new subscriptions, at our discretion. After 14 days, or for renewals, fees are non-refundable except where required by law.
• Taxes. Prices exclude applicable taxes, which we add at checkout.
• Chargebacks. Initiating a chargeback without first contacting us may result in account suspension pending resolution.

7. Prohibited conduct

When using the Services, you agree not to:

• Post false, misleading, or paid-for reviews.
• Impersonate another person, school, or organization.
• Harass, threaten, or defame any person, school, or group.
• Post content that discriminates on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, or disability.
• Post content that disrespects, mocks, or defames the religion of Islam, any other faith tradition, or the religious practices of other users.
• Post sexually explicit content, or content sexualizing minors in any form.
• Post content promoting violence, self-harm, or illegal activity.
• Scrape, crawl, or bulk-extract data from the Services without our written permission.
• Attempt to bypass our moderation, verification, or rate-limiting systems.
• Use the Services to send spam, chain letters, or unsolicited commercial messages.
• Interfere with the Services through attacks (DDoS, injection, brute-force, etc.).
• Use the Services to violate any applicable law, including export controls and sanctions regimes.

Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, permanent ban, and legal action.

8. Intellectual property

The Services — including our logos, branding, site design, editorial content, and software — are owned by us or our licensors and protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works except (a) as permitted by these Terms, (b) for personal, non-commercial use, or (c) as allowed by fair use or equivalent doctrines.

Copyright complaints. If you believe content on the Services infringes your copyright, send a DMCA notice to dmca@islamicschoolreview.com with the information required by 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3). We respond to valid notices promptly and notify users whose content is removed.

9. Third-party links

The Services may contain links to third-party websites (school websites, news sources, social media). We do not control and are not responsible for those sites. Accessing them is at your own risk and subject to their own terms.

10. Termination

You may close your account at any time through your account settings. We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if we believe you've violated these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Services.

Upon termination: (a) your right to use the Services ends immediately; (b) published reviews may remain but will be anonymized; (c) provisions that by their nature should survive (including Sections 4.2, 8, 11–15) will survive.

11. Disclaimers

Information about schools — accreditation, tuition, programs, outcomes — is compiled from public sources and may be outdated. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any information. Always verify with the school directly before making enrollment decisions.

12. Limitation of liability

Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations; in those places, the limitations apply to the maximum extent permitted by local law.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless IslamicSchoolReview and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of (a) your use of the Services, (b) your User Content, (c) your violation of these Terms, or (d) your violation of any third-party right.

14. Disputes and arbitration

14.1 Informal resolution first

Before starting any formal dispute, you agree to contact us at legal@islamicschoolreview.com and attempt to resolve the dispute informally for at least 60 days.

14.2 Binding arbitration

If informal resolution fails, any dispute arising out of these Terms or the Services will be resolved by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, on an individual (non-class) basis, in Dallas, Texas or by videoconference. Small-claims court actions are carved out.

14.3 No class actions

You and we agree that any dispute will be brought only in an individual capacity, and not as part of a class or representative action.

14.4 Opt-out

You may opt out of the arbitration agreement within 30 days of creating your account by emailing legal@islamicschoolreview.com with "Arbitration Opt-Out" in the subject line.

14.5 Governing law & venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. For any dispute not subject to arbitration, the exclusive venue is the state or federal courts in Dallas County, Texas.

15. General

• Changes. We may update these Terms. Material changes take effect 14 days after we post them; we'll notify registered users by email.
• Entire agreement. These Terms, plus our Privacy Policy and any additional agreements you sign, form the entire agreement between us.
• Severability. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
• No waiver. Our failure to enforce any right is not a waiver.
• Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign them in connection with a corporate transaction.
• Force majeure. Neither party is liable for delays caused by events beyond reasonable control.
• Notices. We may notify you through the Services, by email, or by posting. You may notify us at the email addresses below.
